Editorial policy
How we build a useful answer.
We explain the distinction a reader needs, give practical next steps and show the sources supporting material facts. We describe uncertainty when the evidence cannot settle a claim.
Sources and fact checking
We prioritize gemological laboratories, research publications and standards for material descriptions, and consumer authorities for general shopping guidance. Each article links to relevant sources and explains what those sources cover.
Community questions help identify confusing decisions. They are not laboratory evidence and do not establish search volume, market prices or scientific facts. Retailer material is treated as commercially interested guidance.
Our checklists and fit suggestions are editorial recommendations, not quotations from the linked laboratories. A source link does not imply endorsement or independent review of this website.
Meaning, quality and identification
We label folklore and modern symbolic interpretations as cultural or personal. We do not present protection, healing, prosperity or luck as demonstrated effects of wearing pearls.
We distinguish natural formation, cultured formation, imitation material and color treatment. We describe seller grades as seller-specific and use observable quality factors rather than claiming a universal AAA scale.
We avoid damaging home tests. A photo, clasp mark, knot, temperature or surface texture cannot settle every identity or treatment question.
Dates, revisions and corrections
An article’s updated date records a substantive content revision. It is not a claim of human gemologist review and does not change simply because a page is rebuilt. Sitemap dates follow content revisions rather than the current request time.
Corrections should be supported by the affected page, the statement in question and a reliable source. Where evidence is unresolved, wording should describe the limits rather than invent a definitive conclusion. We do not fabricate author credentials, first-hand testing, customer reviews or traffic results.
Images and commercial interests
Illustrations and simulated lighting comparisons are labeled. Editorial shell and nacre images are AI-generated artwork, not photographs of documented pearl specimens. They explain concepts and do not authenticate an individual item. Uncalibrated size diagrams are not physical rulers.
Advertising and affiliate offers are currently disabled. If commercial links are introduced, they must be labeled, and compensation must not determine the factual answer or its order.
The guide does not promise a purchase outcome or provide an individual valuation. For a disputed identity, important natural-pearl claim or formal valuation, ask an independent professional about the appropriate service.
